We were going out to the yard to get some sunshine in the mid morning and Samuel yells, "Mama! A snake!!" I'm hesitant to believe him because he has called the hose a snake before, but I walked out onto our steps and found a yellow and black snake RIGHT by our door! Thankfully, Joshua was walking up the path JUST as I gasped a frantic gasp! He immediately went into action and told me to get a stick and pillowcase! Eventually, he corralled the snake into a large box and we relocated it to a different area. We researched and found that it was a California King snake which eats rodents and rattle snakes, so we figured we better keep her around (we also think it was a female because it expelled some wicked smelling liquid when we went to catch it, which is unique to the female ones!)
In the moment, I did not have my fancy shmancy camera so here are the photos I captured on my phone.
