365:119 - Ba Ba

365:119

Our boys love the minions from Despicable Me, so we bought them both shirts because they were on sale and they just got a kick out of the shirts. Here is Benjamin sportin' his new shirt :) We call them "Ba Bas" because they sing a rendition of "Barbara Ann" which the boys just love!

The boys and I went to our monthly Mocha Morning Monday and the theme was "Tea and Testimonies." There was AMAZING food (see above: Jenny did a beautiful job of displaying all the yummy goodies!)! After some testimonies, I had two of my sweet photographer friends grab my camera and shoot my belly from a few angles since I thought it was funny that I was using my belly as a tea cup table ;) Thanks, Luana and Alia!

This morning, someone whom I will not name, woke up with an accident. Upon examination, we found that Monkey had been affected by this accident so we decided we needed to give him a bath, too. :)

365:115 - new playgrounds

365:115

{iPhone photo}

Recently I have been searching out Santa Clarita for the best playground to take the boys to. When I say best I mean with the best shade, the best equipment for 2 and 3 year olds, and the best environment without super-sketchiness. This day, we had actually been to David March Park which was nice but too far and too big. This picture is actually us at the church playground across the street from our house. OLD, rickety equipment, no shade, and pretty sketchy (but that just might be the creepiness of the equipment haha!) Anyway, our search continues...

365:110 - Resurrection Sunday!

365:110

HE IS RISEN!!!!
And today we got to celebrate that!! Death no longer has its sting and there is HOPE for new life for all who believe! What a beautiful morning we had reflecting on that and the power that God showed through raising His Son from the dead! Friday would have been a most sad day but because Jesus conquered the grave and beat death, we can CELEBRATE! Oh Happy Day!! :)

We started the day with Easter baskets of candy and stickers and sweet stuffed animals from our amazing landlords! The boys were so excited (almost as much as their mama) to see the little baskets waiting for them at the doorstep! We are so thankful for the Whipps and how they are always showing so much love towards us, especially our crazy boys :)

We then took some family shots and headed to church! We then came home for a quick nap and spent the afternoon with Pastor Steve and Judy for some food and fellowship! It was definitely a full day and I am ready for bed ;)

oh and then Benjamin got caught red-handed eating all the strawberries that were red (or even slightly red) in our garden. Little vermin.

Jesus Has Risen (Matthew 28)

28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

The Guards’ Report

11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13 telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14 If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.

365:109 - painting

365:109

I've been trying to add more crafts and fun things to the boys' days because I felt like we were falling into the habit of watching a LOT of Frozen and not really getting the creative juices flowing. So today, I busted out the paints, didn't care about the messes, and let them go at it! I'm pretty sure Samuel loved it…Benjamin got bored fast so we'll have to keep working on it for him. By the end, Benjamin's paint plate looked like a big brown mess! So mom (former elementary art teacher) gave me the suggestion of only giving him two primary colors at a time (i.e. red and yellow) so that when he does mix them, it will turn a pretty orange instead of an ugly greenish-brown. And for Samuel, that will be a good science-ish activity :) Thanks, mom ;)

365:108 - GOOD Friday

365:108

It is so fun having a toddler that can understand stories and crafts and fun food! Today, we celebrated Good Friday, the day on which Jesus was crucified! It seems that to call the day that Jesus was crucified  'good' would be paradoxical. However, to truly understand the sacrifice that was made for the sins of His people is more than just good. It is GREAT, MIRACULOUS, AMAZING! If it had not been for that sacrifice of the Perfect Lamb on behalf of sinners, we would all be damned for eternity! His blood shed on the cross that day pays my ransom and that is GOOD! SO SO GOOD!

And what's even better about Good Friday, is that we anticipate what is to come on Resurrection Sunday………
We started the day reading about the crucifixion from the Jesus Storybook Bible and coloring a page that says, "Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures" (1 Cor. 15:3)

After nap time, we made "Resurrection Rolls" which actually would be the perfect treat for Sunday, but I decided to do it today :) For the treat, we took large marshmallows (white signifying Jesus, pure and blameless) covered them with melted butter (the embalming oil), dipped them in cinnamon and sugar (the spices they put on Jesus to prepare for burial), and then wrapped them in crescent rolls (the tomb). We placed them in the oven and after they were done baking, we opened them up to find that the marshmallow had melted (Jesus was no longer in the tomb!!!) It was fun to see Samuel's reaction and to enjoy the yummy goodness of the rolls! The funniest part of it all was when he found the bag of marshmallows later in the evening he shouted, "I FOUND JESUS!" I foresee more concrete teaching moments when the boys are a little older! But the rolls were fun and yummy!

Here is the story of Jesus' death and burial! I'll post the best part on Sunday!!!!!

JOHN 19

Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they slapped him in the face.
Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, “Look, I am bringing him outto you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him.” When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!”
As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!”
But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.”
The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.”
When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, and he went back inside the palace.“Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer. 10 “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”
11 Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”
12 From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar.”
13 When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge’s seat at a place known as the Stone Pavement (which in Aramaic is Gabbatha). 14 It was the day of Preparationof the Passover; it was about noon.
“Here is your king,” Pilate said to the Jews.
15 But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!”
“Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked.
“We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered.
16 Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified.

The Crucifixion of Jesus

So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. 17 Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.
19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: jesus of nazareth, the king of the jews. 20 Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. 21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”
22 Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”
23 When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.
24 “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”
This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said,
“They divided my clothes among them
and cast lots for my garment.”[a]
So this is what the soldiers did.
25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman,[b] here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

The Death of Jesus

28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. 32 The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other.33 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. 35 The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. 36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,”[c]37 and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”[d]

The Burial of Jesus

38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. 39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.[e]40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. 41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
